Things to do in Helen, Georgia

Helen, Georgia is filled with fun things to do for all ages.

Ride the Georgia Mountain Coaster.

Mine for gems. Helen was once a mining town so this is an appropriate activity. Downtown has a fun setup for kids, but you can also find surrounding mines and try you luck for nature's goodies.

Play mini golf. We played at Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf which had quirky, fun holes.

Stroll through the picturesque Unicoi Hill Park.

Stop and listen to live music which you can find in many spots.

Enjoy a beer in the beer garden.

Take time to enjoy the beautiful plants and flowers. These photos were taken in June but I have a feeling it is gorgeous year round here.

Go shopping. Here you can find a little bit of everything, with an alpine vibe!

Go tubing on the Chattahoochee River.

Not adventurous? Enjoy a meal or a beer along the river while watching the tubers. Besides people, dogs also tube this river adding to the entertainment!

Bar hop to enjoy a variety of German beers. Yes, beer is an important element to this town.

Add your love lock to the river fence,

Visit the Helen Arts & Heritage Center downtown. Here you can learn about the history of how the town evolved into what it is today. The center is also an art gallery where you can enjoy and purchase local artwork.

We hiked to the 150 foot Dukes Creek Falls which was a short drive from downtown. This photo does not do it justice. It was extremely tall and the smaller waterfalls at the bottom are fantastic for the senses!

I would recommend a visit here for anyone in the region. We only spent 2 nights but I can see how a week's worth of activities could easily be scheduled with all the area's waterfalls, mountains, nature trails and so much more.

Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

Beautiful Labadee

Labadee is located in northern Haiti and is managed by Royal Caribbean cruise line. There are beaches set up for swimming and sunbathing. This particular beach  section is rocky, but so cool and gorgeous! A zipline runs over the water for the adventurous visitors. The old volcanic rock formations create a stunning landscape. Since my husband and I are not into sunbathing or swimming, we simply enjoyed the views and walking trails.  Steep inclines and steps lead to gorgeous outlooks. A variety of activities and places to hang out are on the peninsula. The signage is helpful! There is some creative seating.  Also handcarved artwork. The locals entertain with their music and dancing. So many details to observe. When time for lunch or a cool down, large picnic pavilions with amazing view are available. We visited in March 2023 for a perfect fun in the sun kind of day. Thank you for stopping by!

Enertainment Onboard the Jewel of the Seas

The entertainment is classic fun onboard Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas . This was from a trip in March 2023. Tango Buenos Aires is filled with sexy dance numbers and fabulous music.   West End to Broadway was another fantastic original show. Unfortunately I did not take any photos of that production. A big band orchestra performed on Valentine's Day. Mike Pace was on board with his hysterical comedy act. Another funny guy put on a great show with tricks while getting the audience members involved. Various themes of trivia took place during the cruise including a name that tune with the bagpipe. Definitely unique! Other activities were more physical like If You Know It, Dance It. Carribean music was on the pool deck with Splash Duo. The ship band at the time was Kronos who could play all genres.  These guys also helped with Rock-A-Rokie which is karaoke with a live band. Latin music was performed by the talented Soneros Trio. The Schooner Bar had a piano player for sing...

Helen, Georgia

Helen, Georgia is a little bit of Bavaria in the United States. This charming village was the brain child of 3 local businessmen along with the support of local government hoping to turn the old main street of the depressed mining/logging town into an attraction for tourists. Commissioned artist John Kollock designed the store fronts into the Bavarian style in 1969. Since then, it has continued to grow and thrive! It is a picturesque alpine village set amongst mountains, forests and river banks. Walking around early in the morning is quite a treat with virtually no one around! Afternoons are bustling here. It is a place to feel transported to another country. The nooks and crannies once you meander away from the main street are such a treat! The Chatachoocee River runs through the village. Tubers ride down it during the day. Dotted with restaurants and bars, visitors can sit by the river and watch the fun. We saw many purple martins flying about and the village does a great job ...
